It was an unusual start to the summer holidays with the riding school being closed due to the Covid-19 lockdown, however, as soon as we were allowed, we were delighted to welcome our riders back. Pony Days have been happening every Monday since then and the kids have had their ‘own’ pony from 10am until 3pm. They prepare their own pony (with help from staff if required) before riding with Erica.

Every week the kids have learnt different elements of horse care and stable management, such as:

- grooming - tacking up/ untacking - mucking out - safely leading from the ground - feeding

After munching on their well-deserved packed lunches in the log cabin (heated if necessary for the damper days or out on the patio for the warmer weather), the kids return for another ride. Sometimes it’s an afternoon hack in the sunshine along the quiet country roads, and we’ve also done mounted games in the indoor school, taken a walk down the track through the woods, learnt new skills such as rising trot, and more. There’s also dismounted fun such as team building games, colouring in, and quizzes.  Friends have been made and fun has been had by all, as we adapt the day’s programme based on attendees age and ability to make sure everyone is included and learning something new.

The ponies will be sad when their small ‘owners’ return to school. There is still some availability before that happens though so please contact us on 01505 705125 for more information or to book. For ages 6 years and over. No previous experience necessary, however we do recommend at least a couple of pony walks first to get a feel for it.
